Malaysian contestants, Tee Joe Jer,29, and Zabrina Fernandez, 26, created history in The Amazing Race when they emerged as the champions of the very first season of the Asian version of the reality (TV) competition yesterday, and bagged the prize money of RM350,000 (US$100,000).
They were also the first all-female team to ever win the competition in the history of the Amazing Race worldwide franchise programme.
In the (final leg of the) competition, they beat their two nearest competitiors, namely the runner-up team from Hong Kong which comprised of Sandy Sydney, 29, and Francesca Von Etzdorf, 27; and compatriots Andrew Tan, 26, and Syeon Park, 28, who came in third.
According to Tee (Joe Jer) this victory was a bittersweet moment for her and becoming (one half of) the first ever all-girl champions has boosted her confidence to bravely face (future) challenges.
"I never thought we could come this far and I dedicate this victory to my country Malaysia. The prize money will used for a (well-earned) holiday", she said at the prize-giving ceremony here last night.
Also at the ceremony were the host of the programme, Allan Wu as well as all the other contestants of TARA.
As for Zabrina, winning the race was a result of the support from everyone especially from her family, her friends as well the fans of the programme, for which she is very grateful.
"Obviously the ultimate goal of all the contestants was the prize money but the extraordinary experience of facing challenges at every destination was something that money couldn't buy" she added.
(The first season of) The Amazing Race Asia assembled ten teams from Asia including two from Malaysia, bringing the contestants to 15 cities in the region for 24 days on a voyage of 35,000 km.
In the finale that was aired on (Astro) Channel 17 AXN last night, the final three teams left Dubai for Kuala Lumpur which was the first city they visited in the race, before making their way to their final destination Kuching, Sarawak. |
